TA-DA!

You'll never find a pattern to make your InuYasha costume. You will, however, find a base to cut off or add to. Welcome to reality of pattern altering.

What to look for

  1. Similar styles
  2. Similar fit
  3. Similar parts
  4. Folds/Pleats
  5. Length

Disregard colour of the pattern. You can put this to any fabric. Try to find a pattern that resembles your costume in at least two of these ways.

Altering

I highly recommend buying patterns that are a bit big. That way, you can taper it to your desired size. If you want the sleeves shorter, cut them the longest that would make you happy. Better too long than too short.

DO NOT ALTER THE TISSUE PAPER PATTERN! Alter the clothes. Try it on before you sew it, pin it like you want and them sew. Have a seam-ripper nearby.

Making your own patterns

Though more difficult, if done correctly, your pattern will be accurate in every way. Use tissue paper or newspaper to lay out a design. Study scraps of patterns you have, sew a few testers. It's actually easier than it sounds.

Time is a key here! Do not rush or throw things. Learn by observation.

Having Problems?

Feel free to e-mail me at nano_starr@metrodesic.com if you have questions, concerns, problems, comments...anything! I'm pretty easy to talk to. If you want to affiliate, you can do that via email as well.
